
Lions down Cobras on Senior Day, sets program high for wins in season

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (6-5, 2-4 SAC) defeated Coker (1-10, 0-6) by a score of 16-9 Saturday afternoon.
Their sixth win of the season sets a new program high, surpassing their five from the 2019 campaign.
The Lions carried a 6-3 lead into the second quarter with Kiersten Foust netting four goals. Alexa Tazzetta and Samantha Newton added the other two tallies.
Mars Hill put up another six in the second with Maria Fabrizio scoring twice followed by goals from Foust, Newton, Sydney Joyce, and Haley Stallings.
Coker opened the third quarter on a 4-0 run to pull the contest with three, 12-9, before a final minute strike from Tazzetta reestablished the four-goal advantage. The Lions held Coker scoreless in the final 15 minutes of play with Foust scoring two more goals and Joyce adding her second of the contest.
Foust led all players with seven points (7g) followed by Fabrizio's six (2g, 4a). Tazzetta, Joyce, and Newton each added two goals apiece. Hannah Shuren led the Cobras with five points (2g, 3a).
Virginia Joy stopped 12 shots for the win while Abby Kellner allowed 16 goals on 29 shots faced.
During halftime, the senior quartet of Maria Fabrizio, Kiersten Foust, Virginia Joy, and Carly Koblitz were recognized for their contributions to the program.
The Lions host UVA Wise on Tuesday, April 5 inside Meares Stadium. First draw control is set for 4 p.m.
