Mars Hill opens SAC play on road at Anderson
ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (4-10, 0-1 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (6-5, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 16-6 in eight innings on the road in their South Atlantic Conference opener Friday evening.
Tied at six in the bottom of the eighth, the Trojans' offense exploded for 10 runs to cap off their comeback. The Trojans, from the fourth inning on, scored 14 unanswered runs.
In the eighth, a series of RBI singles stacked up as they pulled away from Mars Hill.
After two scoreless innings to start the game, Mars Hill opened the scoring as Elec Yount was plated off of a sacrifice fly from Walker Fox. The Trojans answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring twice.
Yount, in the top of the fourth and with the bases loaded, tripled to right center, plating all three Lions and retaking the lead, 4-2. Later in the frame, both Fox and Peyton Starkey drew walks that allowed two more runs to score.
Anderson's comeback bid began in the bottom of the fourth with Gray Wells' RBI single being the catalyst.
Yount led the Lions with three hits and three RBI while Starkey added two hits.
The teams continue the series on Saturday, February 22 when they play a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
