
EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry Women's Lacrosse Team (3-4) earned its second consecutive non-conference win Monday afternoon as the Wasps defeated Tennessee Wesleyan University (2-7). Emory & Henry had two separate periods with five goals as they rolled to the 14-7 victory. Senior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) equaled her career high for points in a single game as she posted four goals and four assists to lead the Wasps. The win also marked the first home victory in the short history of the program.

How It Happened
- The Bulldogs took the early lead on a goal at the 12:09 mark, but E&H answered just under two minutes later when sophomore attacker Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) scored on a free-position shot to level things at 1-1. TWU took another quick lead, but the Wasps roared back with four consecutive goals. Hicks got on the scoresheet with 7:34 on the clock as she recorded an unassisted tally to tie the score 2-2 before junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) gave the Wasps their first lead of the game at the 6:10 mark on a goal assisted by Hicks. Hicks struck for her second score of the game on the player-up advantage with 3:23 to play in the period and sophomore midfielder Meg Bruner (Otto, N.C.) rounded out the first period scoring on an assist from Hicks with 44 seconds left to give E&H the 5-2 advantage after one.
- Hicks converted another free-position opportunity three minutes into the second period to push the Wasps' lead out to 6-2, but TWU answered back with a pair of scores to draw within two at 6-4 heading into the half.
- Emory & Henry opened the second-half scoring with 12:43 on the clock on a player-up goal from freshman midfielder Sophie Rozen (Shallotte, N.C.), her first of her collegiate career, assisted by Jones. McHargue followed just over a minute later with a free-position goal to increase the margin back out to 8-4. The Bulldogs closed the deficit to three with a goal from Olivia Downey with 7:45 remaining in the period, but E&H tallied three straight to close out the frame. Sophomore attacker Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.), Jones and Hicks scored back-to-back-to-back goals to end the stanza and give the Wasps an 11-5 lead heading into the final period.
- E&H continued to increase its lead to begin the fourth as sophomore attacker Brooklyn Halter (Alcoa, Tenn.) scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Hicks and Rozen posted another goal 21 seconds later on another Hicks helper to give the Wasps their largest lead of the game at 13-5. The Bulldogs posted two straight goals to pull back within six, but Jones put the finishing touches on the win with an unassisted goal with 2:22 to play to clinch the 14-7 victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hicks finished with four goals and four assists on 12 shots while collecting a game-high five ground balls and one draw control. Jones added three goals, one assist, a team-high five draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. McHargue contributed two goals, three ground balls, two draw controls and caused one turnover.
- Bruner had one goal, three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers while Rozen registered two goals, two caused turnovers and scooped up one ground ball.
- Junior goalie Kaitlyn Evans (Gambrills, Md.) made nine saves and picked up two ground balls to earn the win in goal.
Tennessee Wesleyan Individual Leaders
- Downey led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs as she finished with five goals, one assist, a game-high seven draw controls and a pair of ground balls. Kylie Heinrich and Jozlyn Long accounted for the other two TWU goals.
- Rylee Brendlinger had 17 saves in goal while causing one turnover and collecting a pair of ground balls.

- The Wasps return to South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday afternoon when they travel to take on the Lions of Mars Hill University. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. as game one of a doubleheader with the men's team.
