Lions open weekend series with Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (7-9, 3-4 SAC) fell to Limestone (12-6, 5-2 SAC) on the road by a score of 15-2 in their series opener.
Sion Barnette's two-run home run in the bottom of the first opened the scoring for the Saints. Later in the frame, a RBI double off the bat of Gavin Troyer put Limestone up by three.
In the top of the second, Luke Hayes' single through the right side plated Jaden James to cut the lead down to two. After gaining back the three-run lead at the end of the third, Limestone scored five in the bottom of the fourth with three RBI singles.
Entering the top the sixth, trailing 10-1, Hayes picked up his second RBI of the game with a groundout that scored Zach Weaver.
Limestone once again scored five in the bottom of sixth, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Wyatt Stone.
Barnette led all players with three RBI while Stone led all players with three hits. Hayes led the Lions with two RBI.
Colt Wilkins struck out five, allowing one run on two hits in 5.0 innings thrown for the win.
Game two of the weekend series is set for a 12 p.m. first pitch on Sunday, March 3.
