Trojans Wrap up Nonconference Slate by Shutting out Livingstone

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson volleyball team wrapped up its nonconference slate and opened the month of November by blanking Livingstone, 3-0 (25-4, 25-22, 25-11) Wednesday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

In the first meeting between the two programs since 2001, Anderson improved to 22-3 on the season and extended its win streak to 17 matches. Livingstone fell to 3-17 with its 10th consecutive setback.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Seniors Mallory McFerron and Marissa Mitter, along with junior Jalyn Knight each posted nine kills, while redshirt freshman Hailee Wilhelm added eight kills in the victory. Wilhelm posted four service aces, with McFerron tallying three block assists. Freshman Christina Stacy handed out 25 assists, with fellow freshman Abby Elliott coming up with a team-high six digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Trojans posted a .611 hitting percentage in the opening frame, while snapping an early 2-2 deadlock by reeling off six unanswered points as part of a 16-1 run to put the set out of reach.

Second Set
The second set was tied three times early, before the Trojans took advantage of a serve error to snap a 5-5 deadlock and take a lead they would not surrender.

AU steadily pushed out to a 13-8 lead and equaled the five-point margin two more times before claiming the three-point win.

Third Set
The Black and Gold notched a .615 hitting percentage in the final set, as the Trojans jumped out to a double-digit 14-4 advantage on a Livingstone error. AU claimed its largest lead, at 19-6, on another miscue by the Blue Bears and went on to earn the 14-point win.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE NIGHT
The seven service aces were the most by the Trojans since recording 10 in the three-set win over Lincoln Memorial in late September.

NOTES
• The four aces served up by Wilhelm equaled the second-highest total by an AU player this season.
• The 22 victories equal the 2009 Trojan squad for the fifth-most wins in a single season in school history.
• AU's .452 hitting percentage was the highest this season.
• Knight, McFerron and Mitter combined for just three attack errors in 42 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage.
