
Lions fall to Emmanuel
The Mars Hill softball team (0-8) dropped both games of a doubleheader with Emmanuel College (10-4) on Saturday afternoon.
FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Mars Hill softball team (0-8) dropped both games of a doubleheader with Emmanuel College (10-4) on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: EC 4, MHU 3
The Lions fell to Emmanuel in the first game of the day by a score of 4-3.
Emmanuel jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs through the first four innings of play, due in part by a Lexi Jordan home run in the in the bottom of the second inning. Later, in the top half of the fifth inning, Mars Hill's Alicia Wittenhagen hit a three-run home run, scoring Micki Maxson and Sydney Craig to bring the deficit to one run.
Mars Hill would remain scoreless in the following two innings of play. Marissa Adame threw six innings for the Lions, striking out five, and was given the loss. Emmanuel's Maddie Edwards was awarded the win after throwing seven complete innings and striking out nine.
GAME TWO: EC 10, MHU 5
Mars Hill dropped the second game of the day by a score of 10-5.
Emmanuel jumped out to an early 2-0 lead due to a double by Lexi Jordan in the bottom of the first scoring Glory Thompson, followed by a Mars Hill error in the bottom of the third, allowing Jordan to cross the plate.
In the top half of the fourth, Mars Hill would respond by scoring five runs of their own, bringing the score to 5-2. Farley Park crossed the plate after a catcher's interference was called with Zoei Pistel at bat. A Sydney Craig single into center field scored Maegan Blair, which was followed up by a second catcher's interference call that scored Peyton Duba.
Emmanuel responded by putting five runs of their own on the board in the bottom half of the inning due to a pair of RBI doubles coming from the bats of Jordan and Jaryn Gibson. Emmanuel's offense was able to put a trio of insurance runs on the board in the fifth to hold of the Lions.
Kayla Gallagher, the Lions' starter, threw three innings and struck out three, but was credited with the loss. Sydney Blackmon came into the game in relief and was awarded the win after throwing four innings.
The Lions are scheduled to play hosts to Lincoln (Pa.) on Wednesday, February 23rd at 12 p.m on Ponder Field.
