Men's Lacrosse Falls To #4 Limestone

Gaffney, SC – The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team falls to the #4 Limestone Saints Saturday afternoon 7-19.

Lincoln Memorial was the first to put themselves on the board as Gavin Reid adds his first goal of the match with 12:35 remaining in the first quarter, with Rhodes Conroy tallying the assist. The Saints then tie up the match and take the lead by scoring three goals: Korzenski with 11:40 remaining, Morrison (Onagi) with 9:58 remaining, and Lamouraux (Rogers) with 9:19 remaining. The Railsplitters then tie up the game, thanks to Alex Wegrzyn with 5:20 left in the first and Reid with his second goal with 4:44 remaining, both unassisted. Two minutes later, Limestone responds with a goal by Onagi (McGarry) with 2:46 remaining to take the lead again. LMU scores the last goal of the quarter, with Conroy recording his first goal of the match with Reid earning the assist with 1:10 remaining to tie up the match 4-4 going into the second quarter.

Limestone starts a scoring streak in the second as they score 5 goals in a row: McGarry with 12:37 remaining, Onagi (McGarry) with 11:27 remaining, Lamoureux (McGarry) with 8:11 remaining, Korzenski (Burt) with 7:43 remaining, and Onagi with 6:52 remaining, making the score 5-9.  Lincoln Memorial then adds three more goals to the board as Jenson Jones posts his first goal of the match with 5:15 remaining, unassisted. Conroy then gives himself the hat trick by adding 2 more goals: the first with 4:24 remaining with Reid getting the assist, and his second with 2:19 remaining, assisted by Jones. Limestone has the final say in the second as they score the last goal of the quarter, with Lamoureux (McGarry) scoring with 1:30 remaining. The score going into halftime will be 7-10 with the Saints in the lead.

The third and fourth quarter would be all Limestone, as they add 3 goals in the third and 6 goals in the fourth. In the third, Onagi (McGarry) scored with 14:36 remaining, and McGarry adds 2 with 9:06 remaining and 6:00 remaining. With LMU unable to score in the third, the score going into the final quarter would be 7-13.

The Saints add 5 goals in the fourth to strengthen their lead: Terry (Carfello) with 14:15 remaining, Terry (Korzenski) with 14:00 remaining, Terry (Onagi) with 12:10 remaining, Lamoureyx (Onagi) with 10:00 remaning, Messer (Zanoni) with 1:53 remaining, and Collins with 1:12 remaining. As the Railsplitters are unable to score in the fourth, Limestone takes the win 7-19.

Conroy and Reid both lead in points on the day with 4, with Conroy tallying 3 goals and 1 assist and Reid recording 2 goals and 2 assists. Jones finishes the match with 2 points with 1 goal and 1 assist, and Wegrzyn adds 1 point for 1 goal. Jordan Castro leads in ground balls with 4, and John Lombel in caused turnovers with 2. Haden Berry won 8/20 face-offs, and Connor Fitzgibbon earned himself 18 saves.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 23 shots, with 11 of them being on goal, 15/22 successful clears, 26 ground balls, and 11 face-offs.

With the loss, LMU moves to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the SAC.

Their next match will be at home against Coker on Saturday, March 15th at 7 pm.
