HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the first several minutes on unassisted goals by Faster and Szalkowski, but Tusculum kept things close in the early going by scoring two of the next three goals to climb to within 3-2 with 4:33 remaining in the first. The score would not remain close for long, however.

Less that a minute later, sophomore Carter Brand (Ottawa, Ontario) found Stannard as Limestone doubled up the Pioneers, 4-2. That would start a 4-0 spurt as McGarry followed with an unassisted score before Kesselring fired back-to-back tallies, the last off a feed from McGarry, to make it 7-2 through one.

Second Quarter

The Blue and Gold continued to pour it on to start the second, scoring four more times over the first five minutes of the period as part of a 10-0 overall run. Kellner and Consoletti both added a goal during that stretch before Logan scored a mere seven seconds later, splitting the frame off the ensuing faceoff win.

The scores just kept coming in droves for the Saints as Erneston finished off a dime from Szalkowski before he dished out an assist to Kellner to make it a 13-2 game with 4:13 left in the half. McGarry would score his second goal of the day off a pass from Kesselring in between those two goals at the 8:05-mark.

The Pioneers snapped its scoreless drought that lasted well over 16 minutes, but Faster would hook up with sophomore Jason Thomfohrde (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) to give the Saints a 14-3 cushion at the break.

Third Quarter

Limestone extended the margin to 15-3 a few ticks into the third as Ladner took the faceoff win and hit Stannard in stride for his second tally of the day. Tusculum would follow up with consecutive scores over the next couple of minutes, but a goal by Faster on the other end would make it 16-5 late in the quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Leading 16-6 to start the final period, the Saints put the game well out of reach with three quick goals over the first four minutes of the quarter. Erneston buried his 22nd goal of the season before Szalkowski set up freshman Austin Lamoureux (Ottawa, Ontario) to put the visitors in command, 18-6, with 12:19 left.

Senior Connor Grauer (Riverhead, N.Y.) continued the onslaught just over a minute later before Kesselring finished off his hat trick with an unassisted goal to make it 20-6 with 7:35 left on the clock. Graduate Peter Collins (Hurley, N.Y.) then scored the first goal of his career in the closing minutes, finishing off an assist from sophomore Thomas Roth (Orlando, Fla.) as Limestone moved ahead, 21-7.

Consoletti then applied the final touches on the 22-7 win by splitting the cage for the second time on the day, hooking up with senior Mike Carpenter (Queensbury, N.Y.) who provided the helper on the score.

TURNING POINT

Although Limestone never trailed, it would use a 10-0 surge that spanned nearly 15 minutes of game time between the first and second quarters to open a wide double-digit margin. Tusculum outscored the Saints in the third, but the Blue and Gold used a 6-1 outburst in the fourth period to pull away comfortably, 22-7.
