Davis nets 23 versus Carson-Newman

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (6-11, 4-11 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (14-7, 9-6 SAC) by a score of 89-74 Wednesday night.
The Eagles shot over 66 percent from the floor in the first half with Trey Hubbard and John Zhao leading the offense with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Carson-Newman led by 20 heading into the half, up 48-28 after 20 minutes of play. Kory Davis led all players in the half, scoring half of the Lions' 28 points, going 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Dinari Boykin and Daniel Mayfield led the Lions with three rebounds apiece.
In the second half, the Lions outscored Carson-Newman 46-41. Davis led the Lions with nine points and two assists while Marvin Hires added eight points and a team-high three rebounds, along with Mayfield. Both Boykin and Kadyn Dawkins each netted seven in the frame. Xavier Meekins hit two threes in the half for six points.
Davis led all players with 23 points followed by 11 from Hires. Mayfield led the Lions with six rebounds and added seven points. Braden Ilic led the Eagles with 20 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double.
Mars Hill returns to the court on Wednesday, January 29 when they face Lincoln Memorial on the road. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
