Lions felled by Carson-Newman
Dinari Boykin scored his 1,000th career point in the contest.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (6-14, 4-14 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (17-7, 12-6 SAC) by a score of 88-74 Wednesday night on the road.
The Eagles led by two after the first half, up 39-37. In the second half, Trey Hubbard led the team with 15 points while Jack Browder netted 10. Carson-Newman shot 77 percent from the floor, hitting 20 shots in the half.
Kadyn Dawkins led the Lions with 13 points in the half while Kory Davis added nine. Both Davis and Tripp Beatty hit both three pointer attempts.
In the first half, Hubbard led all players with 13 points while Dinari Boykin led Mars Hill with 12 points. Marvin Hires led Mars Hill with four rebounds in the half.
Dawkins led Mars Hill with 22 points and four steals. Boykin ended the night with 14 points. During the contest, he netted his 1,000th career point becoming the third Lion this season to do so. The duo of Davis and Hires each added 11 points apiece. Hires led the team with seven rebounds.
The Lions return to the court on Saturday, February 8 when they face Lenoir-Rhyne on the road. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
