
Schmucker sets career-highs versus L-R

HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (9-3, 1-2 SAC) was defeated in four sets (19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 19-25) by Lenoir-Rhyne (5-2, 3-0 SAC) on the road Tuesday night.
With the score tied at 16 in the first set, the Bears reeled off five straight points highlighted by two kills from Braelyn Faust, acting as a catalyst for the Bears to come from behind and take the first frame, 25-19.
In an evenly contested second set, tied at 23, Lenoir-Rhyne rallied for back-to-back points to go up 2-0 entering the third.
The Lions, trailing 19-17 in the third, went on an 9-2 run to force a fourth set. Grace Lilly and Jana Cuk each had two kills during the run.
Lenoir-Rhyne never allowed the Lions' offense to build momentum in the fourth. Throughout the set, the Lions were never able to string together more than two points during any run.
The Bears hit .156 in the contest while Mars Hill hit .113 that included a game-high .260 in the third frame. Lenoir-Rhyne knocked down 14 blocks to the Lions' five.
