MHU splits with Belmont Abbey
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (7-7) split with Belmont Abbey (9-4), falling in game one by a score of 5-0, but taking game two by a score of 3-1.
GAME ONE: BAC 5, MHU 0
The Crusaders held Mars Hill to just three hits in the contest, plating five runs to take game one.
Kennedy Teasley hit a two-run home run in the top of the second to give Belmont Abbey the lead. In the third, the Crusaders tacked on two more runs, highlighted by Lily Garnett-Brown's RBI double.
Maddie Phillips punctuated the scoring with a RBI double in the top of the fifth.
Sydney Hodges led the Lions with two hits while Brooke Hanson recorded the third Lions hit of the game.
GAME TWO: MHU 3, BAC 1
After three scoreless innings, Belmont Abbey struck first in the top of the fourth. Trinity Wall recorded a RBI double to plate Kennedy Teasley.
The Lions responded in the bottom of the frame as Farley Park's solo home run to center field tied the game at one. Later in the frame, Brooke Hanson flew out to center, which allowed Janiyah Glenn to score on the sacrifice fly.
Mars Hill's insurance run came off the bat of Camryn Sterling, who delivered a RBI single up the middle to plate Maia Sholter.
Bri Weimer went 3-for-4 from the plate to lead all players while Park added two hits.
Téa Cornett picked up her fifth win of the season, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six.
Mars Hill returns to Ponder Field on Wednesday, February 26 when they host Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
