Mars Hill splits with Lees-McRae
Lions' offense scores season-high 15 runs in game one win.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill softball team (6-6) split with Lees-McRae (1-9), taking game one by a score of 15-1, but dropping game two by a score of 11-3 .
GAME ONE: MHU 15, LMC 1 – 5 Innings
The Lions' offense was on full display in the first game, scoring a season-high 15 runs. The Lions led 4-0 after the first, highlighted by Sara Rexrode's two-run home run.
In the second, Mars Hill plated 10 to go up 14-0. Rexrode picked up two RBI singles in the frame while Maia Sholter blasted a grand slam.
The Bobcats broke up the Lions' shutout bid in the top of the third, but Mars Hill recouped the run in the bottom of the frame as Bri Weimer drove home Brooke Hanson with a RBI single through the left side.
Rexrode led all players with three hits while Sholter, Riley Waters, and Farley Park each recorded two hits apiece. Rexrode and Sholter led all players with four RBI apiece.
Téa Cornett struck out six for the complete game victory, allowing just three hits in the contest.
GAME TWO: LMC 11, MHU 3
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, highlighted by Rylee Konowalch's three-run home run.
In the bottom of the third, Meghan Murphy cut Lees-McRae's lead down to two with a two-run home run. Lees-McRae answered in the top of the third as Allie Johnston launched a three-run home run down the left field line, building their lead to 7-2 after four.
To cap off the win, and following an RBI single earlier in the frame, Taylor Beurrier hit a three-run home run to center field to extend their lead to nine.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Tuesday, February 25 when they face Belmont Abbey. First pitch at Ponder Field is set for 12 p.m.
