Emory & Henry Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Lenoir-Rhyne In SAC Battle Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry Women's Lacrosse Team (3-7, 0-6 SAC) dropped a South Atlantic Conference home game to Lenoir-Rhyne University (6-5, 5-1 SAC) inside the Food City Sports Complex Saturday afternoon. The visiting Bears ran out to a 14-1 halftime lead and never looked back, as they earned the win by a 22-4 final score.

How It Happened
- It was all Bears early as LR scored eight unanswered goals in the first period. Lenoir-Rhyne was first on the board in the second frame, but the Wasps ended the rally with their first score of the game. Freshman midfielder Madison Stewart (Blacksburg, Va.) dished to junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) who beat the goalie for her 13th goal of the season to trim the deficit to 9-1. Lenoir-Rhyne would add five more to take a 14-1 lead into the break.
- Jones found the back of the net again to start the second half on another helper from Stewart to make the score 14-2. The Bears responded with six unanswered scores over the rest of the third period and the first four minutes of the fourth to push their margin out to 20-2. Stewart got in on the scoring at the 8:41 mark as she scored unassisted to make it 20-3. After another LR tally, sophomore Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) added her name to the score sheet as she converted on a free-position shot to bring it within 21-4. The Bears would add one last score to take the SAC win by a 22-4 final.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stewart paced the Wasps with a career-high three points on two assists and one goal while adding a draw control. Jones finished with her two goals, five ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. McHargue had one goal, one ground ball and a pair of draw controls.
- Sophomore goalie Cyrianna Lee (Tampa, Fla.) had a strong showing in goal as she made 10 saves in her first career minutes in between the pipes for the Wasps. 

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Hannah Thomas, Alexa Burghardt, Marissa Evans, Jessica Mikesell, Abbey Walker and Olivia Newton all finished with three goals each to lead the offensive attack.
- Sally Friesen and McKenzie Walsh combined for six saves for the Bears in the winning effort.

- Emory & Henry wraps up its three-game homestand on Wednesday, April 2 when the Wasps welcome Southwest Virginia rival the University of Virginia's College at Wise to Emory. First draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
