Coker Takes Road Trip to Wingate for Mid-Week Match Up

Wingate, NC - The Coker University Softball Team dropped both games to Wingate in a mid-week match up (March 7th).

Game One:

Coker began the game playing down to the Bulldogs as Wingate scored five consecutive runs between the first and fourth inning. Cameron Jackson, finally putting the Cobras into action, scored Ariana Fair to earn the first run for Coker. That would be the final run of the game for both Bulldogs and Cobras alike.

Of the 25 at bats, Coker landed five hits. Chloe Pelham and Kayla Oswell collected two hits apiece while Ariana Fair registered one. Kayla Oswell also hit the only double throughout the game and Ariana Fair collected the only stolen base.

Jenae Fedewa faced 18 batter while Cecilia Hogel faced 10. Of the 63 pitches Fedewa threw, she landed 38 in the strike zone. Cecilia Hogel also threw 25 strikes out of 36 pitches.

Game Two:

Wingate carried their momentum into the second game, scoring immediately and continuing into the second inning. Kesley Gollie making her first appearance for the day, homered in to left field and earned the Cobras first run of the game. Despite a strong answer from Kesley Gollie, Wingate continued to push back and took their lead even farther. It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Cobras scored again; this time Caitlyn Wray coming home. Coker was successful in their last attempt to score as Ariana Fair and Brooklynn Stueness crossed home plate to finish the game. Even with strong attempts to overcome the Bulldogs, Coker fell short in the final inning.

Of the 23 at bats, Coker registered nine hits throughout the game and four RBI's. Brooklynn Stueness collected one double while Kelsey Gollie, Julie Hilliard, and Kayla Oswell all brought in RBI's for the game.

Tibby Hessian (14), Cecilia Hogel (7), and Hannah Fisher (14) all pitched throughout the game against the Bulldogs.

The Cobras will return to the mound on Saturday (March 11th) against Virginia-Wise. The first pitch will be thrown at 1 PM in Hartsville, SC. Live streaming and live stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
