
Lions sweep Railsplitters for 10th straight win

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (10-0, 6-0 SAC) defeated Lincoln Memorial (5-9, 3-3 SAC) in straight sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) Tuesday night inside Stanford Arena.
The Lions knocked down 17 kills in the first set, hitting .389 in the opening frame. Timmons Yates led the Lions with five kills, followed by four apiece from Sarah Goddard and Jana Cuk.
Cuk led the Mars Hill offense in the second, recording seven kills in the Lions' dominant performance, once again posting 17 kills and hitting .484. The Lions' defense held Lincoln Memorial to a hitting percentage of .073, forcing the Railsplitters to commit a game-high six errors.
After opening the third set down 4-0, an early Lions' timeout was the catalyst for a 10-2 run that provided Mars Hill they would not relinquish for the remainder of the set. Allison Raines, with her game-high fourth ace of the match, closed the contest for Mars Hill in their 10th straight win.
Cuk led all players with 15 kills followed by nine from Goddard and eight from Jada Cannon. Jordan Schmucker led all players with 35 assists while Laela Jimenez collected a game-high 26 digs.
Mars Hill returns to the court on Friday, September 23 when they take on Wingate on the road. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
