
Lions win fourth straight, down Catawba on road
The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-10, 11-6 SAC) completed the season sweep over Catawba (5-15, 4-13 SAC) Friday night with a 3-1 victory.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-10, 11-6 SAC) completed the season sweep over Catawba (5-15, 4-13 SAC) Friday night with a 3-1 victory.
The Lions, leading 14-11 midway through the first set, pulled away by going on a 6-0 run to run their lead up to nine points. Sarah Goddard recorded five of her team-high 17 kills in the set to lead the Lions to a 1-0 advantage heading into the second set.
Tied at eight in the second, the Lions reeled off 10 of the next 12 points to build an 18-10 lead. The Lions closed the set out with two kills from Goddard and the set clinching point by Lauren Phillips.
The Indians trailed 9-6 early in the third set before a 6-0 run provided them the lead. They would maintain the advantage until an ace from Goddard tied the game at 18 late. Trailing 20-19, two kills from Kylie Morgan led Catawba to close out the set on a 6-2 run and force a fourth set.
Mars Hill pulled away from the Indians in the fourth, going on a 5-0 run to hold a 19-10 lead. The Lions closed out the contest by taking five of the last seven points and complete the four-set win.
Goddard added a team-high 21 digs for the double-double. Sara Pasour also collected a double-double with 26 assists and 20 digs. Sally Anne Johnson recorded 12 kills and hit a team-high .379. Grace Lilly added 10 kills while Phillips had eight kills.
The Lions return to action Saturday, November 2 on the road versus Queens. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
