ANDERSON, S.C. – Redshirt freshman Chandler Castleberry hammered two home runs and drove in three runs to lift Anderson past No. 22 Wingate, 7-3, in South Atlantic Conference action, Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson (14-22, 7-12 SAC) has won four of its last six decisions and snapped a four-game skid at the hands of the Bulldogs. Wingate, which entered the weekend tied for first place in the conference with Catawba, fell to 29-10 and 13-6, while seeing its win streak halted at three.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Castleberry, who has recorded two home runs on three occasions this season, also posted a second-inning double and scored three times. Sophomore Dillon Carpenter was 2-for-3 on the night, with a double, a sacrifice fly and a two-run single. Redshirt sophomore Joseph Strange added a single, a double and a walk in four trips to the plate, with Jackson Strange going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Senior William Thomas posted a pair of singles and scored both times.

Sophomore right-hander Austin Todd (3-3) garnered the win after surrendering just three runs on five hits over seven full innings. He walked five and struck out three. Sophomore Christian Carpenter came on in relief and limited the Bulldogs to just a single over the final two innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wingate jumped out in front early with a solo home run off the bat of sophomore McCann Mellett in the top of the first inning, with AU drawing even in the bottom of the second inning when Castleberry led off by pulling a double to left field and crossed the plate on Jackson Strange's one-out single to center.

The Bulldogs regained a brief lead with another run in the top of the third, while Castleberry's 11th homer of the season – with Thomas on base – lifted the Trojans to a 3-2 advantage. Wingate quickly knotted the score at three apiece with another run in the fourth, but the Trojans took the lead for good on the strength of a four-run fourth inning. Thomas led off with a single and Miller followed with a double down the left-field line to set the table for Dillon Carpenter, who laced a single to center to plate both Thomas and Miller. Castleberry, who is tied for fifth in the league in home runs, belted his 12th of the year beyond the fence in left-center to give AU the 7-3 cushion.

Wingate threatened in the top of the fifth, but Carpenter snared a line drive at first base with a runners on and completed the double play to end the threat and neither team was able to push a run across over the final 4 ½ innings.
