No. 14 Wingate Baseball Opens The Weekend With A 10-1 Win Over Emory & Henry Friday

WINGATE, N.C. – The No. 14 nationally-ranked Wingate University Baseball Team (12-4, 3-1 SAC) took down Emory & Henry College (5-11, 0-4 SAC) in game one of a three-game South Atlantic Conference weekend series on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs recorded 12 hits on their way to a 10-1 win.

How It Happened
The Wasps got the scoring started in the top of the first when junior outfielder Wayne Mize (Salisbury, N.C.) drove a pitch over the fence in left center to take the early 1-0 lead. Wingate responded with three runs in the bottom of the second inning with three runs on three hits and one error, capped off by an RBI double from Seaver King.

The Bulldogs added four more in the home half of the third on four hits, including a two-RBI triple off the bat of Michael Dansky to make it 7-1. WU would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run from Ricky Clark and a two-RBI double from Andrew Motsinger to push the score to its final at 10-1.

Mitch Farris earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs as he went seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run. Junior righty Jack Swarbrick (Haverhill, Mass.) took the loss for E&H, working five innings and giving up ten hits and seven runs while sophomore pitcher Zack McRae (Greensboro, N.C.) threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen. Mize's home run, a single from senior second baseman Noah Mazza (Plainfield, Ill.) and a double from senior outfielder Tyler Bradley (Bessemer City, N.C.) were the only hits for the Wasps in the loss.
