Trojans Sweep Mars Hill

Anderson, S.C. - Anderson University Softball won the home South Atlantic Conference doubleheader over Mars Hill winning game one, 2-0, and winning game two, 6-2, on Thursday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex. The Trojans improve to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

"It is obvious the good Lord is showing us favor, when you win a game 2-0 and don't even get a hit," said head coach Tommy Hewitt.

"We got terrific pitching today, in both games, by Harlie and Laken," boasted Hewitt. "In the second game, we had good hitting from Jessica Neadow going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's, Burton going 2 for 3 and Boatner added some needed insurance with her 7th home run of the season."

Despite being no-hit, the Trojans found a way to score two runs to win game one. Junior Morgan Charter hit a deep ball to center field that was mishandled allowing the only two runs of the game to score. Senior Harlie Duncan (6-0) tossed a two-hit shutout, while striking out eight batters.

Game 2 Summary
Anderson 6       Mars Hill 2

The Trojans used eight hits and two Lions miscues to help produce six runs. Anderson took a 2-0 lead in the third and pushed it to a 5-0 advantage after four innings of play. Mars Hill cut into the lead after scoring one run in the fifth and sixth inning. The Black and Gold added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to set the final score, 6-2. Freshman Laken Maxwell (6-1) gave up four hits, while striking out 10 batters.

KEY TROJANS

-Neadow batted 2-for-4 with two RBI.
- Matti Cantrell went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
- Kennedy Burton batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
- Boatner went 1-for-3 hitting her seventh home run of the year.

UP NEXT

Anderson remains at home to host SAC foe Catawba on Saturday. First-Pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3 pm.
