Women’s Volleyball falls in SAC contest vs. Anderson in four

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's volleyball team took the second set over South Atlantic Conference leader Anderson on Tuesday night at Goodman Arena, but ultimately fell in four sets to the Trojans. 

 

TEAM STATS

- Anderson had 57 kills to Catawba's 40

- The Trojans hit .234 to the Catawba Indians' .113

- AU had eight service aces to Catawba's two

- Anderson held the advantage in digs 78-64

- The Trojans recorded seven blocks to Catawba's five

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Kelcie Love piled up a team-high 12 kills, hitting .250 on the evening

- Mailie Chretien added nine kills and 13 digs, while Jordan Danielson also had nine kills along with two blocks

- Siena Roethler recorded a team-high 30 assists

- Riley Hill had a match-high 24 digs and Kary Hales pitched in 10

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST SET

- Anderson recorded the first five points of set one

- A Catawba attack error gave the Trojans a 12-3 advantage

- AU pushed the lead to as much as 15-4 after back-to-back aces

- Danielson's kill cut Catawba's deficit to 19-12

- Anderson responded with six straight points to take the opening frame

 

SECOND SET

- The teams traded points early on in set two; an AU error tied the set at 5

- Catawba claimed eight of nine points to turn a slight deficit to a 12-6 advantage after Roethler's ace

- The Trojans took three of four points before Catawba answered with a Danielson kill and an Anderson attack error gave the home team a 16-10 lead

- After AU cut their deficit to 19-17, Love and Danielson kills surrounded a Trojan attack error to force Anderson to take its second timeout down 22-17

- Anderson fought off three set points before Chretien's kill clinched the set and tied the match

 

THIRD SET

- The Trojans jumped out to a 7-3 lead in set three

- Catawba cut the deficit to two after a pair of errors, but Anderson took six of seven points to lead 14-7

- The Catawba Indians clawed back to within four with back-to-back kills from Chretien and Chloe Danielson

- The Trojans won seven of nine points down the stretch to take the set, 25-14

 

FOURTH SET

- A pair of Anderson errors tied the fourth set at 4

- Dara Kane's kill and Katie Clark and Jordan Danielson's block brought Catawba within a point at 10-9

- AU recorded three straight points to force a Catawba timeout, but the Catawba Indians responded right back with a Love kill and Hales ace to force Anderson to take a timeout

- Catawba cut its deficit to 17-15 before AU's Kaitlyn Barrett had three straight kills to push the Trojans back out in front

- AU scored four of the final five points of the match to take the final set, 25-19
