Softball Sweeps Competition in Day One of Cougar Classic
COLUMBUS, GA- The Coker University softball team swept their opponents on day one of the Cougar Classic hosted by Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Coker took down Converse in game one 10-2 (six innings) and shut out Columbus State University in game two 3-0.

COLUMBUS, GA- The Coker University softball team swept their opponents on day one of the Cougar Classic hosted by Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Coker took down Converse in game one 10-2 (six innings) and shut out Columbus State University in game two 3-0.
Game one vs. Converse
Chloe Pelham's bomb over the outfield wall would put the Cobras up early in the bottom of the first. A Converse RBI double would tie that game back up in the top of the second inning.
Coker would quickly regain their lead in the bottom of the third from Delaney Eaves RBI double to left, scoring Makayla Cuthbertson and advancing Chloe Pelham to third. In the very next at-bat, a Converse error would plate Pelham. The scoring wouldn't stop there as Ava Jay's RBI sacrifice fly to left would score Eaves, bringing the game score to 4-1.
Converse would take back a run in the top of the sixth to pull within two of the Cobras.
Coker's offense would erupt in the bottom of the sixth as they scored six runs.
Ariana Fair's bunt single would advance Hannah Davis who would reach home by way of a Converse error, 5-2.
Cutherberson would score Fair's single when from an RBI single up the middle. Kayla Owsell's RBI triple to right would bring home Cuthbertson to make bring the game score to 7-2. Jay would then score Oswell's triple with an RBI single to first. Jullie Hilliard would then send a two-RBI single to left, scoring Kelsey Gollie and Jay to bring the final game score to 10-2.
Game Two vs. Columbus State
Coker would pick up right where they left off in game two.
Kayla Oswell's double to center would bring home Ariana Fair and Chloe Pelham to put the Cobras up 2-0 in the first inning.
In the fourth, Ariana Fair would smack a triple deep into the Cougars outfield to score Ava Jay to put Coker up 3-0.
Coker held Columbus State to just three hits in the game.
The Cobras pitched exceptionally with freshman Callie Thornton and senior Jordyn Goodman teaming up to shut out the Cougars. Thornton pitched 6.0 innings while only allowing three hits and striking out three.
Coker is back in action tomorrow (Feb. 12) in day two of the Cougar Classic against Montevallo with first pitch set for 1 p.m.. Live coverage can be found at www.cokercobras.com
