Lions tipoff 2025 on road versus Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-8, 2-8 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (8-5, 6-4 SAC) by a score of 83-74 Saturday afternoon on the road in their first game of 2025.
The Catawba Indians shot 45 percent from the floor, hitting five threes in the first half of play to lead 43-27 after the first 20 minutes of play. Jashaun Hawkins led all players with 13 points while the duo of Nick Walker and Kris Robinson added eight apiece.
Kadyn Dawkins led Mars Hill with eight points. Chase McWhite added five points. Daniel Mayfield led all players with five rebounds in the half.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes of play with Mars Hill outscoring Catawba 47-40. Kory Davis exploded offensively for 24 points. Mayfield continued to dominate on the boards, pulling down another eight rebounds while adding eight points.
Davis led all players with 28 points followed by 19 from Dawkins. Mayfield added the double-double with 13 rebounds and 12 points. Walker led Catawba with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Mars Hill opens their 2025 home slate on Wednesday, January 8 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
