Dahlonega, Ga. – The Anderson University Softball team has been knocked out of the winner's bracket by top-seeded North Georgia losing to the Nighthawks, 3-1, on Thursday afternoon at The Haines and Carol Hill Stadium
"North Georgia is ranked number two in the nation for a darn good reason, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "They are a very good team. However, we stood toe to toe with them and I'm proud of the Trojans. We had a few mishaps but all and all we have no reason to hang our heads."
North Georgia scored two runs in the third inning and tack on another run in the fifth inning.
The Trojans scored a solo run in the sixth inning when junior Kayson Boatner drilled a shot over the left field fence.
Senior Harlie Duncan (14-4) pitched a solid five innings, giving up four hits. Freshman Laken Maxwell pitched the final inning giving up a hit and striking out two.
North Georgia's Kylee Smith (17-3) and the Region Pitcher of the Year gave up just three hits and had 15 strikeouts.
The Trojans will now face Young Harris at 6 pm in an elimination game.
