How It Happened
- Both teams began the match with an eye for goal as they traded attempts at the target. Anderson held on to a narrow 4-3 advantage on shots through the opening 20 minutes of play but the score stood scoreless. The Trojans had a great opportunity to open the scoring in the 23rd minute when a handball in the box awarded a penalty kick to the visitors. Sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) came up big as she saved the penalty attempt from Leanna Guion to keep AU off the scoreboard. The Trojans wasted no time as Catherine Nardella slotted home a shot off of a pass from Kylie Swanson just 38 seconds after the penalty save to put Anderson on top 1-0. The defenses buckled down in the latter stages of the half and the score stood at 1-0 heading into the halftime break.
- The Wasps broke through on the board in the 53rd minute. Sophomore midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) showed off some nifty footwork as she dribbled past a pair of Trojan defenders and centered a ball to fifth-year forward Grace Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) who smashed a shot past the Anderson goalkeeper for her first goal in an Emory uniform to level things at 1-1. The squads picked up the pressure through the middle of the second half as they each looked for the go-ahead tally. Stavis struck again in the 75th minute when she unleashed a beautiful curling shot from nearly 30 yards out that nestled into the upper right corner of the goal to push the Wasps ahead 2-1. E&H locked down on defense to hold on for the historic win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stavis paced the Wasps with a goal and an assist on five shots, three of which found the target. Wagner had a goal on her lone shot of the afternoon while sophomore defender Bella Fairley (Chesapeake, Va.) and senior midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS) each finished with a shot.
- The defensive back line of Fairley, juniors Elise Buonocore (Stephens City, Va.) and Olivia DaSilva (Newton, N.J.) and freshman Maddie Haldeman (Richmond Hill, Ga.) all had big games to keep the Anderson attackers at bay. Wagner posted five saves in goal to earn the win.
