
Mars Hill wins fourth in a row, downs Wasps in four
The Mars Hill volleyball team (6-1, 2-0 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (2-7, 0-3 SAC) in four sets (16-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-14) Friday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (6-1, 2-0 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (2-7, 0-3 SAC) in four sets (16-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-14) Friday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Wasps hit a team-high .229 in the first, recording 16 kills. Mars Hill responded in the second, dominating play by hitting a match-high .310. Mars Hill trailed 2-0 before reeling off five straight points and never looking back. The Lions took four of the last five points to even the contest at one.
A back-and-forth third saw the teams extend past 25 with the Lions holding on and securing the set on their sixth set point.
Mars Hill, leading 13-11 in the fourth, pulled away from the Wasps by going on a 4-0 run. They'd close out the match on a 6-2 run with the match put away by a kill from Skylar Ogden. Mars Hill hit .300 in the final set of action.
Jada Cannon led the Lions with 13 kills followed by 11 from Katilyn Grant. Ogden and Brooke Hoffman added six kills apiece. Cannon and Grant led the Lions with three blocks apiece while Laela Jimenez led the team with 24 digs. Jordan Schmucker recorded 32 assists and 19 digs for the double-double along with four kills.
The Lions return to the court on Saturday, September 16 when they take on Lenoir-Rhyne. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
