Cobras Unable to Overcome Catawba in Final Minutes

Salisbury, NC - The Coker University Men's Basketball team dropped a late-season game to Catawba 87-84. 

Although the Cobras came up short,  Tate Mulkey paced the Cobras with 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting on the night.  Mulkey led the Coker run in the second half connecting on four three pointers within three minutes to lift the Cobras to an 82-79 edge late in the second half.  Jamie Muldowney's (14) jumper with 1:21 left in the game pushed the Cobras up 84-79.   The Cobras had a look at the basket on their final position but came up short.

In addition to Mulkey, Coker got 16 points from Jordan Jones, who also finished the night with nine assists.   Jamie Muldowney had 14 points and nine rebounds on the night, and Mahmoud Bangura chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds for the Cobras.  As a team, Coker shot 51.7 percent from the field. Coker forced Catawba to turn the ball over 16 times and converted 14 points off those turnovers.  The Cobras outrebounded Catawba 40-35.  

Javeon Jones paced Catawba with 31 points and came up with a steal with 12 seconds to go to seal the Catawba win.  

The Cobras will travel to Carson Newman University on Saturday (Feb. 25) for their final regular season game of the 2022-23 season.  Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
