Trojans Fall at Carson-Newman; 83-66

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. –Despite shooting 60 percent from the field in the first quarter of action, the Anderson University women's basketball team could not keep the baskets falling as South Atlantic Conference foe Carson-Newman was able to use a big third quarter run to help claim the, 83-66, victory on Wednesday evening at Holt Fieldhouse.

With the loss, Anderson falls to 11-4 overall and 8-3 in the league while Carson-Newman improves to 11-6 overall and 8-3 in the conference action.

The Trojans were led by freshman guard Alexy Mollenhauer's team-high 15 points while senior Jasmine Franklin chipped in 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman Madison Baggett contributed eight points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists while picking up two steals for the Black and Gold.

Anderson got off the bus shooting an impressive 60% from the floor while hitting 4-of-6 3-pointers during the first period of action. Despite the percentages dropping off in the second quarter, the Trojans managed to survive a 4:07 scoring drought to end first half play down only two points, 39-37.

After scoring the first two points of the third quarter, the Trojans shooting woes continued with Carson-Newman running off 12 straight points over the next 4:35. Anderson ended the third quarter shooting a dismal 3-of-15 (20%) from the floor and 1-of-6 (16.7%) from beyond the arc with a scoreboard deficit of 61-48.

Despite the deficit, the Trojans continued to battle and began the fourth stanza with an 8-0 run of their own, cutting the lead to four. The Eagles responded back pushing their lead back between nine and 11 points forcing Anderson to foul. Carson-Newman made 7-of-10 foul shots in the final two minutes to seal the victory.
