Cobras Drop SAC Doubleheader to Lenoir-Rhyne

HARSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne University on Tuesday (Apr. 11) in a pair of South Atlantic Conference matchups. The Bears won game one by a score of 6-3, then won game two by a score of 6-4.

In game one, the Bears plated a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. The Cobras responded in the bottom of the second inning, when Allyson High ripped a two-out double to left field, scoring Augusta Jackson and Riley Morris, giving the Cobras a 2-1 lead. Lenoir-Rhyne scored two more in the top of the third to regain the one-run lead. The two sides traded runs in the fifth inning, however, it was L-R scoring runs in the sixth and seventh inning to take the eventual 6-3 win in game one.

Hannah Goodman and High led the way at the plate for the Cobras, Goodman going a perfect 3-for-3, while High was 2-for-3 with two-RBI.

Jackson was hit with the loss. She allowed two earned runs in four innings.

In game two, Lenoir-Rhyne plated another first inning run to take an early 1-0 lead. A RBI double by Maria Williamson in the bottom of the first scored Kelsi Bachmann and tied the game up at 1-1. The Bears scored three more runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Navy and Gold rebounded with two runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to a RBI triple by Cacey Simmons and a RBI groundout by Williamson. The Bears responded once again, this time with two runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. A Hannah Price solo home run in the sixth would give the Cobras some life, however, it would not be enough as Lenoir-Rhyne took game two by a score of 6-4.

Williamson led the way, going 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring two RBI. Price and Simmons each went 1-for-3, each recording an RBI.

In the circle, Taylor Forehand was hit with the loss. She allowed five earned runs in four innings.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 19) to take on the Newberry College Wolves in a SAC doubleheader.
