
Lions rally, but fall in extra innings versus Concord

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (2-4) was defeated by Concord (1-0) by a score of 8-7 in 10 innings Saturday afternoon.
Mars Hill trailed 7-2 entering the bottom of the eighth. Walker Fox doubled to right center, plating Jackson Jones to cut the lead down to four. In the next at-bat, Elec Yount's RBI single plated Fox.
Fox struck again in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. With Peyton Starkey and Terick Bumgarner on base, Fox blasted a three-run home run over the right field fence to tie the game at seven.
In the top of the tenth, a deep drive to center field by Korbin Bostic plated Austin Hear for the eventual game-winning run.
After two scoreless innings, Bumgarner opened the scoring with two-run home run to deep left center, measuring 431 feet off the bat.
Concord scored seven runs through the sixth and seventh. With the Mountain Lions leading 3-2 entering the top of the seventh and the bases loaded, Bostic's bases clearing double saw Concord lead by four.
Fox led all players with four RBI while he, Bumgarner, and Max LaLime led the Lions with two hits apiece.
The teams return to the diamond on Sunday, February 9 with a doubleheader slated for a game one start time of 11 a.m. at Henderson Field.
