HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team improved to 33-11 and 9-3 in South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday (Apr. 4) by sweeping the visiting Wingate University Bulldogs. The Cobras won game one by a score of 5-1, then took game two by a score of 2-0.

In game one, Tayler Barcomb ignited the Coker offense with a solo home run in the second inning, putting the Cobras ahead 1-0. It was Coker striking again, this time the pitcher Augusta Jackson belting a solo home run to lift the Navy and Gold to a 2-0 lead. The Cobras added three insurance runs in the sixth inning thanks to back-to-back home runs by Barcomb and Riley Morris, giving the Cobras the 5-1 win in game one.

Barcomb finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, with three RBI. Jackson went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Morris and Maria Williamson each belted hits as well, Morris plating an RBI.

In the circle, Jackson improved to 6-1 on the season, allowing just five hits in six-shutout innings.

In game two, all the scoring came in fourth inning, when Maria Williamson scored on a wild pitch and Mindy North, who advanced from first to third on the wild pitch, scored on an Augusta Jackson infield single.

Jackson went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two as well, plating the lone RBI for the Navy and Gold. Maria Williamson and Cacey Simmons notched one hit each in the win.

In the circle, Taylor Forehand (9-1) carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, allowing just two eventual hits in six-shutout innings. Nikki Linthicum picked up her league-leading fourth save on the season, tossing a perfect seventh inning in relief.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 8) at 1 and 3 p.m. to welcome Carson-Newman. Saturday will also be senior day for the four seniors on the Coker roster
