HOW IT HAPPENED

Innings 1-3

Like the first game of the series, Limestone stuck in the top of the first following a one-out double by Shugan that split the left-centerfield gap. After a wild pitch moved him over 90 feet, an RBI groundout by Burroughs staked the Blue and Gold to a quick 1-0 lead. The Saints would then add a tally in the second.

Patsy sat down the Trojans in order in first before Harris dropped a single into left to start the second for the Saints. Blair followed with a walk before an error would allow the Saints to make it a 2-0 game. With a runner on third and just one gone, Limestone was unable to capitalized as the next two batters struck out.

Patsy was cruising early, retiring nine straight batters over the first three innings to start the day, including sitting down two via the strikeout, as the Saints maintained their slim 2-0 edge a third of the way through.

Innings 4-6

The wheels would come off for the Saints in the bottom of the fourth as Anderson sent 11 men to the dish to surge ahead 6-2 with a six-spot in the frame. The Trojans started things with three straight base knocks before a hit batter, another single, and two straight walks powered the decisive inning for the home team.

Limestone had a chance to get a couple of those runs back in the fifth as Nelson was plunked and sophomore Peyton Reel (Clover, S.C.) worked a base on balls. Freshman Peter Adams (North Augusta, S.C.) sacrificed both runners over, but the Saints would not take advantage as both were left stranded.

Innings 7-9

The Blue and Gold loaded the bags with two outs in the eighth as MacCallum and Blair both worked walks before Nelson was hit for a second time. Anderson escaped the jam, leaving the bases full of Saints, and then added an insurance run in the home half with a two-out RBI double to make it 7-2.

Adams was hit to begin the ninth but would only advance to second as the next two batter were retired quietly. Burroughs then lofted a single to left – the team's first hit since the second innings – to score the runner from second, but it was not quite enough as Anderson took the series win with the 7-3 decision.

TURNING POINT

The six-run fourth for the Trojans was the difference in this game as Limestone outscored Anderson 3-1 over the rest of the contest. AU sent 11 men to plate in the decisive frame, scoring six runs on five hits, two walks, and a hit batter, and that would be all the offense the home team needed to get the series win.
