
Mars Hill opens season on road at Barry
The Mars Hill softball team (0-2) opened their 2023 season on the road versus Barry (4-2), falling by scores of 8-0 and 4-1 Thursday evening.
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Mars Hill softball team (0-2) opened their 2023 season on the road versus Barry (4-2), falling by scores of 8-0 and 4-1 Thursday evening.
GAME ONE: BU 8, MHU 0 (5 Innings)
Barry took game one by a score of 8-0, highlighted by their four-run second inning. A Harper Bunn two-run double bumped the Buccaneers' lead up to 3-0. They tacked on two more runs to go up 5-0 entering the third.
For the second time in the ball game, the Buccaneers stole home in the bottom of the third to go up 6-0. Bunn picked up her third RBI of the game off of a groundout to extend the lead to seven.
Taylor Thompson's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth sealed the win for Barry.
Thompson, Bunn, Cassandra Lee, and Brooklyn Rushton each recorded two hits in the contest while Bunn led all players with three RBI.
Miranda Marks led the Lions with two hits while Jessica Senn and Katie Todd each added a hit.
Maci Barnhart struck out seven and allowed four hits for the win. Kayla Gallagher allowed five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings thrown.
GAME TWO: BU 4, MHU 1
The Buccaneers completed the sweep, taking game two by a score of 4-1.
After three scoreless innings, Barry opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth, plating two runs. Brooke Moeller's RBI groundout advanced Rylee Lord to third. A Mars Hill error allowed Lord to score the second run.
In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor Thompson expanded the lead to three with a RBI single. Mac Stone-Folmar plated Thompson with a RBI double, sending the Buccaneers into the sixth with a4-0 lead.
Ella Brooks broke the shutout bid with a RBI double in the top of the seventh, scoring Kendall Bowers.
Stone-Folmar led all players with two hits. Brooks, Bowers, and Jessica Senn recorded the Lions' three hits.
Cassandra Lee picked up the win, striking out 12 in 6.2 innings thrown. Haelee Angelico recorded the last out for the save. Alyssa Poston threw 4.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits in the loss.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Friday, February 10 when they face Lee. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
