
Mars Hill upsets No. 9 Young Harris for second time
The Mars Hill baseball team (11-20) defeated No. 9 Young Harris (25-6) for the second time this season by a score of 6-5 Wednesday afternoon.
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Mars Hill baseball team (11-20) defeated No. 9 Young Harris (25-6) for the second time this season, downing the Mountain Lions by a score of 6-5 Wednesday afternoon.
Zach Weaver opened the scoring in the top of the first with a three-run home run. In the bottom of the frame, a RBI single off the bat of Ethan Stamps cut the Lions' lead down to two.
Chad Sikes built the Lions lead up to five, cranking a three-run home run over the left field fence in the top of the second. Young Harris plated three in the second, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Jeremy Begora.
After four scoreless innings, Young Harris plated the final run of the game as Steve Spell scored off of Kade Smallwood's sacrifice fly.
Weaver and Sikes led all players with three RBI while Weaver and Elec Yount led the Lions with two hits apiece. Grady Bivens was credited with the win, throwing 2.1 innings, allowing two hits. Brycen Jewell earned his first save of the season, throwing a scoreless ninth and striking out one.
Mars Hill returns to action on Friday, March 29 when they kickoff their weekend series with Newberry. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Henderson Field.
