Mars Hill earns split with Catawba
Farley Park posted three home runs and six RBI on the day.
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill softball split a thrilling doubleheader with conference rival Catawba at Ponder Field, combining for 22 runs in Game 1 and dominating in Game 2 to cap off an action-packed afternoon of SAC softball.
GAME ONE: CAT 13, MHU 11
In Game 1, the Lions went toe-to-toe with a red-hot Catawba offense, falling just short in a 13–11 slugfest.
Mars Hill erased an early deficit with a five-run third inning, highlighted by a towering three-run homer from Maia Sholter and a two-run shot from Farley Park, who had a monster performance with two home runs and five RBIs. Bri Weimer added four hits and an RBI, and Leah Grimes and Daci Sarver each drove in runs to keep the Lions within striking distance.
Despite their resilience at the plate, Catawba used a late four-run seventh to pull away.
GAME TWO: MHU 11, CAT 2 - 5 Innings
In Game 2, Mars Hill bounced back in commanding fashion, rolling to an 11–2 run-rule win in just five innings.
The offense stayed hot, smashing four home runs and racking up 12 hits. Daci Sarver stole the show with a grand slam, totaling five RBIs, while Farley Park continued her dominant day with her third home run of the doubleheader.
Camryn Sterling and Maia Sholter also went deep as the Lions put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth inning. On the mound, Blyth Freeman delivered a steady performance, allowing just five hits and one earned run in a complete-game win.
Now sitting at 17–17 overall and 7–7 in SAC play, Mars Hill will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday as they travel to Lincoln Memorial for a critical road doubleheader. First pitches are set for 1 and 3 p.m. as the Lions continue their push up the conference standings.
