Volleyball Falls in Tough Five-Set Contest to Limestone Friday Night

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University volleyball fell in a tough five-set South Atlantic Conference contest to Limestone Friday night (Mar. 19) by a score of 3-2.

The teams went back and forth in the first set, eventually playing to a 10-10 tie. The teams later played to a tie at 16-16, before eventually locking up again at 23-all. Limestone eventually took the bonus-point set 26-24.

Limestone jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the second set, before the teams battled to a 13-12 Limestone lead later in the set. After the teams played to an 18-18 deadlock, before Coker would take seven out of the final 10 points of the set for the 25-21 victory.

The teams played to a 9-9 tie early in the third set, before later playing to an 18-18 deadlock. After playin to draws at 22-22 and 26-26, Coker rallied for a thrilling 31-29 victory in the set.

The teams played to a 4-4 tie early in the fourth, before eventually locking up at 14-14. Limestone would go on to win the set 25-20, coming on strong late in the fourth set.

The teams played to a 6-6 deadlock in the decisive fifth set, before Limestone would win nine of the final 14 points to take the victory.

Emily Everton paced Coker with 16 kills in the night, while Chelsey Blume had 14 and Kay Hill also had 12. Four other Cobras recorded kills in the match. Ashley Carson dished out a team-high 28 assists in the match, while Rami Mullen also added 13 assists in the match. Five other Cobras registered assists on the night. Hill led the Cobras with 19 digs on the night, while Makayla Harris recorded 11 digs and Mullen posted 10. Six other recorded digs on the night for Coker. Blume led the Cobras with four solo blocks on the night, while Ann Frisk also had one. Blume also led the Cobras with five block assists, while Frisk added four block assists. Four others helped in the blocking effort on the day. Coker also recorded eight service aces, with three from Harris. Three others recorded service aces for Coker.

The Cobras return to the court on Wednesday (Mar. 24) to host Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. from the DeLoach Center, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
