
Women’s Volleyball falls in season opener vs. Limestone
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's volleyball team fell in their opening match of the season inside Goodman Arena to the Limestone Saints to drop to 0-1 in South Atlantic Conference action.
TEAM STATS
- Limestone had 43 kills to Catawba's 27
- The Saints hit .261, while the Catawba Indians hit .072
- Catawba had four of six service aces on the night
- Limestone had 13 blocks to Catawba's two
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Maillie Chretien had a team-high 10 hills on a .241 hitting percentage in her Catawba debut
- Jordan Danielson hit .357 with six kills
- Dara Kane had a team-high 12 assists, while freshman Mya Benfield added 10 assists and eight digs
- Riley Hill led the team with nine digs with Kelcie Love adding seven digs
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Limestone recorded 13 of the first 17 points to take an early lead
- Catawba roared back with six of the next seven points to cut the deficit to 14-10
- The Saints answered back with nine of the next 12 points to take a 23-13 lead
SECOND SET
- Limestone jumped ahead for the first six points in set two
- A kill by Danielson, three straight Limestone attack errors and an ace from Kary Hales tied the set at 7
- Back-to-back kills from Chretian and Love cut a Limestone lead down to 15-14
- Limestone prevented Catawba from stringing points together to win the set 25-22
THIRD SET
- Hales recorded two aces in a 5-0 Catawba run early on in set three
- Chretien's kills made it a 10-8 Catawba lead
- The Saints recorded six points in a row to pull ahead 24-15
UP NEXT
- Catawba heads to Murfreesboro, N.C. this weekend to take part in the Chowan Tournament
- The team starts the weekend with a doubleheader on Friday, taking on Shippensburg at 1 p.m. and host Chowan at 5 p.m.
