
Late Lions' comeback falls short versus SAC Leading LMU

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (5-2, 1-1 SAC) was defeated by Lincoln Memorial (8-1, 2-0 SAC) by a score of 18-13 Wednesday night.
The Railsplitters used a 10-goal second quarter to propel them to their eighth win of the season. Avery Van Der Ziel netted three goals while Ali Van Der Ziel recorded five points (2g, 3a) in the frame.
The teams traded goals throughout the third quarter with Ali Van Der Ziel posting another four points (4a). Kiersten Foust scored twice in the frame while Maria Fabrizio and Sydney Joyce potted goals.
The Lions held Lincoln Memorial scoreless in the fourth, scoring four unanswered goals. Foust, Joyce, Camryn Marcey, and Maria Fabrizio scored for the Lions.
Both teams ended the first quarter tied at three with Foust netting two in the opening period.
Ali Van Der Ziel led all players with 10 points (3g, 7a) followed by Avery's six (6g).
Foust led all goal scorers with seven. She also picked up her 100th career draw control, scooping up nine on the day. Joyce eclipsed the 100 career point mark, netting three goals and adding one assist.
The Lions travel to Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, March 19 to face Queens. First draw control is set for 12:30 p.m.
