Softball Sweeps Mars Hill

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker University softball team swept Mars Hill today (Apr.9) by scores of 5-3 and 9-8 in game two. 

 

Game One

Mars Hill would score first in the contest when they would score two runs in the first two innings of play. 

In the bottom of the third Bailey Douglas's RBI single to right center would score Ava Jay to bring the score to 2-1.

The Lions would score another run in the top of the fourth to give Mars Hill the two run advantage over the Cobras. 

In the bottom of the fourth Caitlyn Wray would launch her first career home run over the left field wall to bring Coker within one. 

Delaney Eaves single to right field would score Mackenzie Harmon in the bottom of the fifth to tie game one up at 3-3.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Ava Jay would send a 2 RBI triple to left center scoring Brooklyn Stueness and Delaney Eaves to put Coker up 5-3 and take game one from the Lions. 

 

Brandi Davis (3-5) would pick up the win in the circle for game one while Jordyn Goodman picked up the save

 

Game Two

The Lions would plate one run in the first to have the 1-0 lead headed into the bottom of the first when Chloe Pelham's RBI double to left center would score Ava Jay, tying the game early. 

 

Coker's go ahead run would come when Bailey Douglas would single to shortstop and Arianna Fair would score on the throwing error by the Mars Hill shortstop. Kayla Oswell would add an insurance run for Coker from her RBI single up the middle, scoring Chloe Pelham.

 

The Lions would cut into the Coker lead by way of a home run in the second before Chloe Pelham's single up the middle to score Ava Jay. Julie Hilliards RBI single to third would bring home Pelham and put the Cobras up 5-2 headed into the third. 

 

Mars Hill would make a comeback in the fourth as they would plate four runs to take the 6-5 lead. 

 

Coker would regain the lead in the fourth from Kayla Owsell's RBI single and Julie Hilliard's RBI double to bring the game score to 7-6. 

 

The Lions would record a run in the fifth and sixth inning to take the 8-7 lead over the Cobras. 

In the bottom of the sixth Bailey Douglas's RBI triple to right center would score Chloe Pelham to tie it right back up at 8-8. 

 

In the bottom of the seventh with two outs left and a runner on third, Ava Jay would get the walk off RBI single to give Coker the 9-8 win over the Lions.
