Hat Trick from Cepeda catapults Trojans past Cobras; 4-0

Anderson, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer used a plethora of shot opportunities to blank South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker, 4-0, on Wednesday evening at the Anderson Civic Center.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference action, while the Cobras dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in SAC play.

Sophomore Erin Cepeda scored her first career goal in the 22nd minute of action. Cepeda punched in a cross from freshman Kendall Simpson.

Cepeda struck again in the 52nd minute after controlling a ball in front of the goal, punching it past the keeper from close range.

Anderson freshman Haley Sanneman had a go at scoring her first career goal after using a cross by junior Kirsten Armetta. Sanneman drilled the pass past the keeper to give the Trojans a commanding 3-0 lead.

Cepeda completed the hat trick by taking a perfectly placed cross by Armetta and punching it in to score her third goal of the night.

The Trojans outshot the Cobras 35 (13) – 5 (1), while Coker claiming the corner kick edge, 4-3.

BETWEEN THE POSTS

AU'S Madison Paige recorded save on the night, before being relieved by freshman Jeanette Campbell for the final 15 minutes of the match.

Coker's Sarah Swaim was credited with nine saves on the evening.

COACH'S CORNER

"Tonight was a culmination of what we have been working on since preseason, said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "It was good to see us generate lots of attacking opportunities and capitalize on several chances as well as keep a clean sheet. This was a great team effort that we look forward to building upon."

NEXT UP

Anderson will travel to SAC foe Tusculum on Sunday. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
