Late Bulldogs' run sinks Lions in SAC Quarterfinal
The Mars Hill volleyball team (21-12) was defeated in five sets (25-23, 25-18, 18-25, 7-25, 12-15) versus Wingate (23-3) Tuesday night in South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal action.
WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (21-12) was defeated in five sets (25-23, 25-18, 18-25, 7-25, 12-15) versus Wingate (23-3) Tuesday night in South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal action.
The Bulldogs dropped the first two sets of the match, but stormed back to take the middle frames. The fourth set was dominated by Wingate as they knocked down 13 kills on just 27 swings with no attack errors, hitting a match-high .481.
Mars Hill led the final set 10-9 before Wingate went on a 6-2 run to complete the three-set comeback.
The Lions hit a team-high .236 in the first set and, despite a drop to .081 in the second, was able to force Wingate to commit 12 errors in the second frame to take a 2-0 advantage going into the third.
Wingate had five players in double-figure kills and four in double-digit digs, hitting .237 on the night to the Lions' .113.
