
Mars Hill downs Coker in three on road
The Mars Hill volleyball team (11-1, 7-1 SAC) defeated Coker (3-10, 0-7 SAC) in straight sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-14) Saturday afternoon on the road.
HARTSVILLE, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (11-1, 7-1 SAC) defeated Coker (3-10, 0-7 SAC) in straight sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-14) Saturday afternoon on the road.
A back-and-forth affair in the first set saw the Lions trailing Coker 8-6 early on before a 7-1 run propelled Mars Hill to a 13-9 advantage. The Cobras responded with a four-point run of their own later in the frame to bring the deficit to one and eventually tied the contest at 21-all before the Lions went on a 4-1 run to take the first frame.
Tied at 13 in the second set, Mars Hill used a 6-0 run to provide them a lead they would not relinquish in the set. Jada Cannon and Nikkayla Stewart had two kills apiece in the run.
Mars Hill dominated the third set, hitting a game-high .371 to Coker's .068, claiming their 11th win of the season.
Sarah Goddard led all players with 11 kills and 18 digs for the double-double followed by nine kills apiece from Cannon and Stewart. Stewart also led the team with four blocks (3 BS, 1 BA). Jordan Schmucker collected a game-high 31 assists followed by seven from Eloise Rique.
Mars Hill returns to Stanford Arena on Tuesday, September 27 when they face Livingstone in non-conference play. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
