
Mars Hill splits with Middle Georgia, GCSU
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Mars Hill softball team (5-2) split with No. 23 Middle Georgia (2-1) and Georgia College and State University (3-4), defeating the Knights 8-0 in five innings, but falling to the Bobcats by a score of 6-0.
GAME ONE: MHU 8, MG 0 - 5 Innings
The Lions led 1-0 entering the third inning. The offense exploded for seven runs in the top of the third, highlighted by Katie Todd's two-run triple that scored Riley Waters and Farley Park. Todd opened the scoring in the second with a RBI single.
Both Waters and Bri Weimer drew bases loaded walks in the third while Sydney Hodges plated Todd for the eighth run of the contest.
Todd led the Lions with two hits and three RBI while Park led all players with two runs scored.
Téa Cornett picked up her fourth win of the season, throwing five scoreless innings with just four hits, striking out two.
GAME TWO: GCSU 6, MHU 0
Mars Hill was held to just one hit in their second game of the day.
The Bobcats struck early, plating three in the first, highlighted by Divina Checo's solo home run. Checo picked up her second RBI of the game in the sixth with a RBI single to put the team up by six.
Farley Park recorded the lone MHU hit of the contest.
Tiffany Caban struck out 11 with the one-hit, complete game victory.
Mars Hill closes out the the Georgia weekend versus Middle Georgia on Sunday, February 9. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
