Volleyball Drops SAC Contest to Mars Hill in Four Sets

MARS HILL, N.C. - Coker University volleyball dropped its South Atlantic Conference match in four sets to Mars Hill on Saturday (Sept. 18) by a score of 3-1.

Mars Hill took the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-16, before Coker rallied to take the third set 25-19.

The Cobras jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the third set, forcing a Mars Hill timeout. The Cobras kept Mars Hill at a distance in the set, eventually growing the lead to 15-9 to force another Mars Hill timeout. After Mars Hill got back within one at 19-18, the Cobras won six straight points to polish off the set.

Mars Hill won the fourth set 25-10 to win the match.

Emily Everton paced the Cobras with a match-high 15 kills, while seven other Cobras registered kills in the match. Ashley Carson led the Cobras with 20 assists, while Rami Mullen dished out 19 and four others also contribiuted assists in the match. Makayla Harris led the Cobras with a career-high 23 digs, while while Taylor Parker posted 10 digs and seven others registered digs in the match. Chelsey Blume led the blocking effort with four block assists, while Lauren Loveday and Naomi Earl-Reyes each registered two and Everton and Carson Fuller each had one.

The Cobras return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 21) when they travel to Limestone in South Atlantic Conference action. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. from Gaffney, S.C. with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
