
Lions sweep day two of Bobcat Battle
The Mars Hill softball team (4-5) defeated both Southern Wesleyan (2-9) and Converse (5-7) by scores of 13-0 and 8-1, respectively.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Mars Hill softball team (4-5) defeated both Southern Wesleyan (2-9) and Converse (5-7) by scores of 13-0 and 8-1, respectively.
GAME ONE: MHU 13, SWU 0 (5 Innings)
Mars Hill swept their two-game series with Southern Wesleyan, plating 13 runs in the win.
The Lions plated five in both the first and second innings. In the first, Jessica Senn opened the scoring with a RBI double, her first of four RBI in the contest. Both Amber McLaren and Farley Park recorded RBI singles while Micki Maxson plated the fifth run of the frame off of a RBI triple.
In the second, Senn extended the Lions' lead to eight with a three-run home run. Maia Sholter picked up her second RBI in as many innings with a RBI single while Maxson collected her second RBI of the game with a single to center.
In the third, Mars Hill plated three runs, highlighted by Park's two-run single. Sholter, with her second sacrifice fly of the contest, notched her third RBI of the game.
Senn led all players with three hits and four RBI. Park added three hits and three RBI while Sholter also posted three RBI.
Kayla Gallagher earned her second win of the season, striking out four and allowing just four hits in five innings.
GAME TWO: MHU 8, CON 1
Mars Hill closed out the day with an 8-1 win over Converse.
Jessica Senn once again opened the scoring, plating Ella Brooks off of a RBI double in the first.
In the third inning, Katie Todd scored two with a single to left and later in the frame, scored off of a Converse error.
The Lions scored three in the fifth as Senn hit her second home run of the day and Micki Maxson cleared the bases with a three-run double to center, putting Mars Hill up by eight entering the bottom of the frame.
Maxson led all players with three hits and three RBI. Brooks also posted three hits on the day while Senn collected another two RBI on the day, running her total to six over the two games.
Alyssa Poston earned her first win of the season, allowing one run on three hits while striking out 10 in the complete game performance.
Mars Hill closes out the Bobcat Battle on Sunday, February 19 when they take on Converse and Georgia College. The games are scheduled for an 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. first pitch, respectively.
