The Mars Hill softball team (3-11, 0-2 SAC) was defeated in both games of their doubleheader versus Carson-Newman (21-3, 2-0 SAC) by scores of 7-0 and 6-5 Thursday afternoon.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill softball team (3-11, 0-2 SAC) was defeated in both games of their doubleheader versus Carson-Newman (21-3, 2-0 SAC) by scores of 7-0 and 6-5 Thursday afternoon.
GAME ONE: C-N 7, MHU 0
The Eagles put up seven runs in the first three innings of play, including a four-run first inning.
After back-to-back RBI groundouts, Kennedy Warder plated two with a triple to left field to end the frame up 4-0.
Macey Hughes, in the bottom of the second, extended the lead to six with a two-run double to left center field. Mary Vandergriff singled down the left field line in the bottom of the third to plate Warder for Carson-Newman's seventh run of the contest.
Hughes and Warder each drove in two to lead all players. Sara King struck out 10 in the complete game win, allowing two hits.
GAME TWO: C-N 6, MHU 5
Mary Vandergriff completed the sweep with a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Carson-Newman jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, highlighted by Hayden Dye's two-run single.
In the top of the second, the Lions broke the shutout bid with Maggie Langheim's solo home run to left center. Mars Hill took the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs. Peyton Duba's RBI double cut the deficit to one and an Eagle error later in the frame allowed two Lions' runs to cross.
Carson-Newman's SieAnna Cameron doubled to left center in the bottom of the fifth to plate two, retaking the lead heading into the sixth.
Mars Hill clawed back into the contest as Mykayla King's sacrifice fly scored Maegan Blair to tie the game at five.
Dye and Carmen Holt led all players with two hits in the contest while Dye and Cameron led all players with two RBI.
Sara King earned her second win on the day and 12th of the season, striking out three and allowing one run on one hit in 2.2 innings pitched.
The Lions return home on Wednesday, March 9 when they host Anderson. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
