
Lions close out 2024 season at home versus Limestone
The Mars Hill softball team (15-31, 4-20 SAC) closed out their 2024 season at home, falling to Limestone (25-19, 10-14 SAC) by scores of 11-1 and 8-7 Monday afternoon.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill softball team (15-31, 4-20 SAC) closed out their 2024 season at home, falling to Limestone (25-19, 10-14 SAC) by scores of 11-1 and 8-7 Monday afternoon.
GAME ONE: LU 11, MHU 1 – 5 Innings
The Saints scored 11 runs on 13 hits in their game one victory.
Abigail Price opened the scoring in the first with a three-run home run. In the third, the Saints tacked on two more runs to build their lead to five.
Maia Sholter, in the bottom of the third, plated Leah Grimes with a single to left field for the Lions' lone run of the contest.
The Saints scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth as Katie Wilbur picked up two RBI off of a triple and double.
Wilbur and Ragan Bristol led all players with three hits while Price led all players with three RBI. Grimes and Jessica Senn led the Lions with two hits apiece.
GAME TWO: LU 8, MHU 7
Mars Hill's late game comeback bid fell just short in the final game of the season.
The Lions trailed 8-2 entering the bottom of the sixth. Leah Grimes hit a two-run home run to pull the Lions within four. In the bottom of the seventh, Grimes smacked another home run, this time a three-run blast to right field that pulled Mars Hill within one.
Limestone opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the second, highlighted by Jaylin Adkins' RBI double. Peyton Duba, in the bottom of the stanza, plated Micki Maxson with a single up the middle. In the bottom of the third, Jessica Senn's RBI single brought Mars Hill within two, scoring Farley Park.
The Saints again put up a four-spot, going up 8-2 in the top of the fifth.
Grimes went a perfect 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI to lead all players. Duba, Maia Sholter, and Payton Little each recorded two hits apiece.
