Young Harris Men's Lacrosse Defeats Emory & Henry, 14-3, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry Men's Lacrosse Team (0-3) fell in non-conference action to Young Harris College (2-2) Saturday afternoon inside the Food City Sports Complex. The Mountain Lions topped the Wasps by a final score of 14-3.

How It Happened
- The Mountain Lions were the first to break through on the scoreboard as they tallied the opening three goals of the game. The Wasps got on the board with 1:22 remaining in the opening period when freshman midfielder Caleb Mims (Kingsport, Tenn.) found freshman attacker Dakotah Hawkins (Roanoke, Va.) who put a shot past the Young Harris goalie to reduce the deficit to 3-1. The visitors would add one more goal to take a 4-1 lead after the first period.
- YHC hit its scoring stride to begin the second frame as the Mountain Lions scored seven unanswered tallies to increase their lead out to 11-1. Sophomore attacker Peyton Leftwich (Roanoke, Va.) took a pass from Hawkins and beat the goalie to make it an 11-2 margin heading into the halftime break.
- The scoring pace slowed in the third period as the Wasps' defense dug in and made its presence felt. Young Harris scored with 7:44 on the clock to balloon its advantage back out to double digits at 12-2. E&H got back in the score column at the 3:17 mark when freshman midfielder Gabe Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.) passed to freshman attacker Collin Shell (Blountville, Tenn.) who fired a shot into the back of the net on the man-up advantage to make it 12-3. Young Harris would go on to add two more goals in the fourth period as they earned the 14-3 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Leftwich finished with one goal and three ground balls while Hawkins had one goal, one assist and a ground ball.
- Freshman defender Kyle Dyott (Easton, Md.) led the defense with a team-high seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Freshman defender Isaiah Ward (Fredericksburg, Va.) recorded five caused turnovers and three ground balls.
- Freshman goalie Mason Buttery (Carmel, Ind.) finished with a career-high 16 saves and scooped up five ground balls. 

Young Harris Individual Leaders
- Tommy Chriszt recorded a match-high three goals, five assists and caused three turnovers. Hunter Stagg, Grady Stokes, Gunnar Fagerstrom and Colburn Connelly all finished with two goals.
- Dylan Wilbur, Trey Cohron and Jackson Scott all split time in net, combining for six saves in the win.

- Emory & Henry is back in action on Monday, February 17 when the Wasps host Roberts Wesleyan for another non-conference showdown. Face-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
