Men’s Soccer Wins Season Opener Against Montevallo; 1-0

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The Anderson University men's soccer team opened up the 2017 season with a, 1-0, victory over Montevallo on Friday afternoon at the Lee University Soccer Tournament.

Anderson's freshman Thomas Joergsholm notched the match's lone goal in the 88th minute of action while senior Josh Calabria tallied his first assist of the season.

Anderson moves to 1-0 on the year winning its last three season openers after defeating Lees-McRae and USC Aiken the previous two seasons.  

Preserving the shutout was freshman goalkeeper Gal Elyashiv earning the start for the Black and Gold. Elyashiv totaled two saves on the afternoon while recording his first career shutout.

The Trojans outshot the Falcons, 9-7 while holding an 8-7 advantage in corner kicks. Joergsholm recorded three shots while seniors Calabria and Lars Kalua, juniors Cameron Emerson and Johnny Landis, sophomore Myles Duncan and freshman Oriol Gomez each took a shot.

Anderson returns to action on Sunday when the Trojans play host Lee University. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
