Rome, Ga.- The Anderson University women's lacrosse team won its first road game when they played away at Shorter University. The Trojans took down the Hawks 17-8 opening their inaugural season 2-0.
Hannah Thomas led all scorers with six goals while Alicia Cannon and Gwen Ontiveros each had three. Cassidy Jones contributed two more goals with Lili Bouwma, Laine Stanton, and Megan Cann netting one goal each.
Ten Trojans combined for 22 caused turnovers with Jackie Tiongco leading the team with seven while Sofia Polito added four more.
Kora Turner recorded eight saves in goal for the black and gold.
How It Happened
Anderson scored just under two minutes into the first period on a free position shot. They converted on two more shots shutting out the Hawks 3-0 heading into the second period.
The second period was evenly split with the Trojans and Hawks each scoring five goals, none coming from free position shots for either team.
The Black and Gold scored six more goals in the third period while the Hawks only added one goal while committing three penalties.
In the fourth period the Trojans added three more goals with the last one coming with under a minute to play. The Trojans out-shot the Hawks 44-18 with seven different players scoring for the black and gold.
